AFCHIX ANNOUNCED AS A WINNER OF USAID’s WOMEN CONNECT CHALLENGE ON 3RD OCTOBER 2018
On 3rd October 2018 at the W20 Summit, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the winners of the WomenConnect Challenge, a global call for solutions to increase women’s access to digital technology and life-enhancing services that can reduce poverty and drive inclusive economic growth.
The Challenge was designed to identify and support solutions that empower women and girls, via access to, and the use of, digital technology to drive positive health, education, and livelihood outcome for themselves and their families.
Of the 500+ applications from 89 countries globally, AFCHIX’s project: “Gender-Sensitive Approaches to connect the unconnected using Community Network Models” was among the 9 finalists announced on this day.
The Goal of the project is to build the capacities of women to establish and support Community Networks and provide connectivity to disadvantaged communities in Senegal, Kenya, Morocco, and Namibia. The solution will use gender sensitive approaches and deliberately involve women as leaders and focal persons in the design, installation and maintenance of Community Networks.
AFCHIX (www.afchix.org) is a network of women in Technology who consider gender diversity in the Computer Science & ICT industry very critical for increased creativity and innovative performance of the industry. We have had activities impacting over 25 African countries.
